Buck has made a niche of its own for his music, which it occupies with grace and dignity. Horatio W. Parker. When one considers the enormous space occupied by the hymn-tune in New England musical activity, it is small wonder that most of its composers should display hymnal proclivities. Both Buck and Parker are natives of New England. Parker was born, September 15, 1863, at Auburndale, Mass.
The Congressional inquiry would take place immediately, and in all probability a demand would be made upon the Senate for Judge Rossmore's impeachment. It was, he added, almost unnecessary for him to remind the Board that, in the event of impeachment, the adverse decision in the Auburndale case would be annulled and the road would be entitled to a new trial.
The people of Auburndale thought differently and, goaded on by the local newspapers, had begun action in the courts to restrain the road from diverting the land from its alleged original purpose.
There has been a lot of litigation, most of which has gone against us, and it has cost a heap of money. It reduced the last quarterly dividend very considerably, and the new complication this Auburndale suit, which also has gone against us is going to make a still bigger hole in our exchequer.
But in regard to the particular case now at issue this Auburndale decision there had been no way of preventing it. Influence had been used, but to no effect. The thing to do now was to prevent any such disasters in future by removing the author of them. The directors bent eagerly forward. Had Ryder really got some plan up his sleeve after all?
From Auburndale the boulevard leads into Commonwealth Avenue and the run is fine. It was about seven o'clock when we reached the Hotel Touraine, and a little later when the machine was safely housed in an automobile station, a part of an old railway depot. A few days in Boston and on the North Shore afforded a welcome change.
A number of minor things were done, and every nut and bolt tried and tightened. Saturday morning, September 7, at eleven o'clock, we left the Touraine for Auburndale, where we lunched, then to Waltham, and from there due north by what is known as Waltham Street to Lexington, striking Massachusetts Avenue just opposite the town hall.
