To understand how the pollen substance finds its way to the ovule substance let us examine the pollen grain a little more carefully. Pollen grains are of many shapes, though usually they are globe-shaped, or football-shaped. Tiny as they are, the outer skin is often marked with grooves and ridges in a very ornamental manner. They have two skins, an outer hard one, a softer inner one.

"All has gone well to-day, Daisy?" he asked her pleasantly. "O yes. And Dr. Sandford, shall we finish the sun?" "By all means. What more shall I tell you?" "How much more do you know, sir?" "I know that it is globe-shaped I know how big it is I know how heavy it is; and I know that it turns round and round continually." "O sir, do you know all these things?" "Yes." "Please, Dr.

At the upper ends where they were attached to the branches they were globe-shaped, but the lower part consisted of a long cylinder of much smaller diameter, and at the bottom of this cylinder was the entrance. They bore some resemblance to salad-oil bottles inverted, with their necks considerably lengthened; or they might be compared to the glass retorts seen in the laboratory of the chemist.

I behold the corozo of the same genus with the palma real its light feathery frondage streaming outwards and bending downwards, as if to protect from the hot sun the globe-shaped nuts that hang in grape-like clusters beneath.

It is rare in English collections, but frequently occurs in Continental gardens. Mag. 4687. Stem globe-shaped, 1 ft. high, slightly narrowed towards the top; ridges fifteen, 1 in. deep, sharply angular, the edges bearing tufts of spreading, yellowish spines, over 1 in. long, slightly curved, and tipped with red.

Its fruit, which is of a scarlet colour, is globe-shaped, and not oblong, as that of the true mulberries; and this is one reason why it has been separated into a genus by itself.
