Several times, in the history of our planet, has the Lord God fulfilled the words of the Psalmist: "Thou takest away their breath, they die, and return again to their dust. "Thou sendest forth thy breath, they are made: and thou renewest the face of the earth."

Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works. He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke. I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

Thou sendest forth thy Spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. You may not understand why I read this morning, instead of the Te Deum, the 'Song of the three Children, which calls on all powers and creatures in the world to bless and praise God.

"O Lord, how manifold are Thy works! in wisdom hast Thou made them all: the earth is full of Thy riches. That Thou givest them they gather: Thou openest Thine hand, they are filled with good. Thou hidest Thy face, they are troubled: Thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth Thy Spirit, they are created: and Thou renewest the face of the earth."

"Poor Bob," said the old gentleman, apostrophizing his horse; "poor Bob, like thy betters, thou knowest the weak hand from the strong; and when thou art not held in by power, thou wilt chafe against love; so that thou renewest in my mind the remembrance of its favourite maxim, namely, 'The only preventive to rebellion is restraint!"
