The kind behavior of Prince Bahman made the dervish smile, and return his compliment. "Good dervish," replied Prince Bahman, "I am in search of the speaking-bird, the singing-tree, and the yellow-water.
"Sire," replied the princess, "this tree has no other name than that of the singing-tree, and is not a native of this country. Its history is connected with the yellow-water and the speaking-bird, which came to me at the same time, and which your majesty may see after you have rested yourself. And if it please you, I will relate to you the history of these rarities."
And the branch of the singing-tree was no sooner set in the midst of the parterre, a little distance from the house, than it took root, and in a short time became a large tree, the leaves of which gave as harmonious a concert as those of the tree from which it was gathered.
