"Children can learn two languages, or even three at once; and this, if these are spoken to them by different individuals, without confusion and without being less able to learn other things. To return to the letter. "Weston-super-Mare, "16th Feb., 1884. "My dear Friend,
See Weston-super-Mare. Wraxall, a parish 5 m. E. from Clevedon and 2 m. from Nailsea Station. Its church has a tower, the appearance of which is spoilt by the windows rising above the string-courses. In the interior observe the roof, some screen-work, partly ancient and partly modern, on the N. side of the chancel a tomb with two effigies, believed to be those of Sir E. and Lady Gorges.
The holiday outings I gave my men were a quid pro quo for some hours of overtime in the hay-making, and included a day's wages, all expenses, and a supply of food. The organisation here was rotten just at this time, but it improved later. The Viper, a fast packet-boat, took us across to Southampton. And next morning I proceeded to Weston-super-Mare, having taken nearly three days on the journey. Most of that leave I spent in bed in the hands of the doctor.
