In 1653 he married D'Aunay's widow, Jeanne de Motin, in the hope to quote the contract "to secure the peace and tranquillity of the country, and concord and union between the two families." Peace then reigned for some months in Acadia; many new settlers came into the country, the forts were strengthened, and the people were hoping for an era of prosperity.
