This evil comes to pass if such honest exercises and chivalrous games are despised and neglected. The feeling of harmony and bien-etre resulting from play is, in itself, a rare form of wealth for the individual and a blessing to all with whom one has to do. Every social contact tends to become wholesome.

A few moments later Kendal let himself into his rooms, where lights were burning, and threw himself into his reading-chair, beside which his books and papers stood ready to his hand. Generally, nothing gave him a greater sense of bien-être than this nightly return, after a day spent in society, to these silent and faithful companions of his life.

At that moment a band at the corner struck up "La Fille de Madame Angot," and the illusion was complete. The Hotel du Bien-être was kept by the Gerhardts, a delightful family of father, mother, and eleven children. It was a happy time in Antwerp for the Osbourne children, for this large family of young people provided them with pleasant companionship.

But this hospital too was crowded with wounded. They went on duty at once. C'est la guerre! I never heard any one complain. The Marquise d'Andigné, who was Madeline Goddard of Providence, R.I., is President of Le Bien-Être du Blessé, an oeuvre formed by Madame d'Haussonville at the request of the Ministère de la Guerre in May, 1915.
