There is indeed a little old work, which was in the old choir before it was altered in the early part of this century. When removed, some of the front desks had been placed in the morning chapel, though much of the projecting tracery work was taken off. It was realised, when the existing stall-work was being designed, that these would be very suitable for use in their old position.

The quaint mediaeval chambers; the cloisters, with their dark and mysterious doorways; the hall, with its high timbered roof and stained glass; the huge Tudor chapel, with its pure white soaring lines; the great organ, the rich stall-work, and the beautiful fields with their great elms all this gave him a dim delight.

Carved not Master Gottfried the stall-work at Augsburg?" "Yes, indeed! In chestnut leaves!

Through the side-screen, into the grandly beautiful choir, arching high above, with stall-work and graceful canopies below, and rich glass casting down beams of coloured light all for 'glory and for beauty, thought Geraldine. 'You must not stop; you must look when you are settled. That's my side, pointing to one of the choristers' desks.
