The windows were filled with heraldry by Willement, and show us the arms of the legal luminaries who have adorned Lincoln's Inn, many of whom are also represented by busts and painted portraits. The hall is connected with an ample kitchen, and a series of butteries, pantries, and sculleries of suitable size.
Red shafts, green roof, and here and there a pane of blue sky neither Owen Jones nor Willement can improve upon that ecclesiastical ornamentation, while for incense I have the fresh healthy turpentine fragrance, far sweeter to my nostrils than the stifling narcotic odour which fills a Roman Catholic cathedral.
As for the little church, it owes all it is to-day to its late owner and historian, Mr Willement, and though it is not in itself of very great interest it serves as a memorial of his enthusiasm and love. Davington is less than a mile out of the town of Faversham, and therefore it was not quite dark when I made my way into that famous place.
