Intellectual perfection means perfection of intellect; and intellect is perfect when we understand the true nature of things and never mistake the unreal for the real, matter for spirit, non-eternal for eternal, or vice versa.
Nor may you have recourse to the hypothesis of the Lord being embodied; for as we have shown under I, 1, 3 there arise difficulties whether that body, which as body must consist of parts, be viewed as eternal or as non-eternal. If you say, as in the case of the organs; we deny this, on account of enjoyment and so on. But this analogy cannot be allowed 'on account of enjoyment, and so on.
This implies either that the Vedic words denoting them not differing therein from common worldly words such as Devadatta are totally devoid of meaning during all those periods which precede the origination of the beings called Indra and so on, or follow on their destruction; or else that the Veda itself is non-permanent, non-eternal.

These objections apply to the samavaya whether it be viewed as eternal or non-eternal. The next Sutra urges a further objection against it if viewed as eternal. The samavaya is a relation, and if that relation is eternal that to which the relation belongs must also be eternal, so that we would arrive at the unacceptable conclusion that the world is eternal.
