At the next general election the Antimasons nominated a separate ticket, and they carried the counties of Genesee, Monroe, Livingston, Orleans, and Niagara against both the great parties.

From a State organization the Antimasons became a national party, and in 1832 nominated William Wirt for the presidency.
Because a party platform was then used for the first time. The originators of the national convention were the Antimasons. State conventions of delegates to nominate state officers, such as governors and congressmen and presidential electors, had long been in use.
