Vol. 9 alleen met een "Foreword" van den President Mark Napier Trollope, Bishop in Corea, die over Hamel's Journaal zeer gunstig oordeelt maar de opmerking maakt: "there are points, like his circumstantial account of the man-eating "crocodils" to be found in Chosen, which sound rather like a "traveller's tale", though it is possible that such animals may have existed two hundred and fifty years ago and yet be extinct now". Hamel gaat echter vrij uit; over krokodillen komt in zijn Journaal evenmin iets voor als over olifanten.
