We, however, made out that it was very necessary to be cautious in our dealings with the Moors, as they were the greatest thieves and rogues in the world, and that they would only desire an opportunity of seizing the brig, and making slaves of us all; but that while we remained in Alarache, we should be safe under his protection.
No time, therefore, was lost in shipping a fresh cargo, and in furnishing us with such supplies as might be required. Our directions were to proceed first to the port of Alarache, where resided a merchant who corresponded occasionally with our Bristol consignees.
