On the 10th February we coasted along the west side of the Philippine islands, and while passing Panga, a large island inhabited by the Spaniards, we saw many fires, which we supposed were intended to give notice of our approach, it being rare to see a ship on this coast. The 18th we anchored in ten fathoms at the N.W. end of the island of Mindora.

I don't think the natives there see a white man more than once in five years. It's a very isolated spot, off the north-èast coast of New Guinea. "Bully" Hayes used to call there once. However, let me have him. The Mindora may go to Manila next year; if so, I'll land him at Onêata on our way there. Anyway, he's no good to you.

An Isle to the West of Sebo. Walking Canes. Isle of Batts, very large; and numerous Turtles and Manatee. A dangerous Shoal. They sail by Panay belonging to the Spaniards, and others of the Philippine Islands. Isle of Mindora. Two Barks taken. A further account of the Isle Luconia, and the City and Harbour of Manila. They go off Pulo Condore to lye there. The Shoals of Pracel, &c. Pulo Condore.
