I can see it now as I write or, more accurately, if I stop writing for a moment for it is just outside the library window. The vulgar call it a tub they would; actually it is the Tulip Garden. At least, the man says so. For the tulips have not bourgeoned yet. No, I am wrong. Their heads are well above ground, they have swelled into buds, but the buds have not broken.
It would be like mutilating his own being; the brotherly affection that had bourgeoned and grown between him and that rustic had struck its roots down into his life, too deep to be slain like that.
I have a delightful recollection of a bill of his in which I was charged for "fioletz," with the vague addition of "maine cains." Subsequent explanation proved it to be "many kinds." Nevertheless, my little garden bourgeoned and blossomed under his large, protecting hand.
