The other Persian reliefs may be divided under four heads: Mythological representations of a man the king apparently engaged in combat with a lion, a bull, or a monster; Processions of guards, courtiers, attendants, or tribute-bearers; Representations of the monarch walking, seated upon his throne, or employed in the act of worship; and Representations of lions and bulls, either singly or engaged in combat.
The fidelity and accuracy with which the racial type of the tribute-bearers is given is most extraordinary; every face seems a portrait, and each one might be seen any day now in the Jewish quarters of Whitechapel. The first two paintings are representative of a very common style of fresco-pictures in these tombs. The care with which the animals are depicted is remarkable.
