MR. BACHELLER'S Poems in a book very handsome in the points of typography, binding, and illustration is made up of a collection of verse ranging from dramatic incidents of peace and war to lovely idyllic pictures and verse read on academic occasions. The whole collection is marked by virility, simplicity of manner, and genuine strength and feeling.
The splendid personality of Silas Wright has been best revealed to us in Irving Bacheller's The Light in the Clearing. The book is partly history and partly commentary and partly fiction. Silas Wright, says Irving Bacheller, carried the candle of the Lord; and all the world rejoiced in its radiance.
Of the various novels from Winston Churchill's The Crisis to Irving Bacheller's A Man for the Ages which have sought to mingle the right proportions of rural shrewdness and honorable dignity, no one has yet been equal to the magnitude of its theme.
It's the same with the books that you read and the thoughts that you enjoy. They go down into your bones and you can't get them out. A man's bones are full of the sin of his youth, which lies down with him in the dust! But the best exposition of the text is not Michael Hacket's, but Irving Bacheller's.
