For who, that hath an eye upon, or regard of such things, seeth not what a world of carnal reasonings, objections, prejudices, and scruples, natural men have in readiness against the gospel of Christ; and with what satisfaction, peace, and delight they reason and plead themselves out of the very reach of free grace; and what work there is to get a poor soul, in any measure wakened and convinced of its lost condition, wrought up to a compliance with the gospel-way of salvation?
The resistance of an important man to the gospel makes the persistence of his dependents in the gospel-way almost impossible. In some quarters, however, whole families and whole clans have been blessedly converted, and idolatry has been completely eradicated.
