The higher unity of gravity and light is the copula or life, the principle of the organic, of animated corporeality or the processes of growth and reproduction, irritability, and sensibility. These forces are raised by light to a higher potency, and then make their appearance as the causes of the dynamical process or of the specific differences of matter.
This does not mean that we believe in the corporeality of God; Heaven forbid, we do not even think of the soul of man as corporeal. But we cannot deny the things recorded, which are well known. They might have happened in a still more wonderful way than I have been able to conceive. This may seem like an unwarranted magnifying of the virtues of our people.
