I have subjoined to this chapter some recollections of him by Lord Blachford, who was his pupil and an intimate friend. "In this mortal journeying wasted shade Is worse than wasted sunshine." HENRY TAYLOR, Sicilian Summer, v. 3. Remains, Second Part, i. 47. Remains, i. 82. Apologia, p. 84.
He thought also very highly of Lord Blachford. W. Palmer's work on the Church, to which also testimony has been borne by Dr. Newman in his 'Apologia. But I do not recollect that he had an unreserved admiration at once of character and intellect in any case except one that of Dr. Newman himself. It was originally formed in common and very absorbing interests.
