Instead of the vehement and almost slanderous dehortation from marriage, which the Misogyne, Boccaccio addresses to literary men, I would substitute the simple advice: be not merely a man of letters! Let literature be an honourable augmentation to your arms; but not constitute the coat, or fill the escutcheon!
