12th October, 1867. An elephant killed by Tipo Tipo's men. It is always clouded over, and often not a breath of air stirring. 16th October, 1867. A great many of the women of this district and of Lopéré have the swelled thyroid gland called goitre or Derbyshire neck; men, too, appeared with it, and they in addition have hydrocele of large size.

I observed, however, that Europeans, in the river, who avoid the liquor, are hardly ever free from this foul blood-poison, and a jar of sulphur mixture is a common article upon the table. Hydrocele is not unfrequent, but hardly so general as in the Eastern Island; one manner of white man, a half caste from Macao, was suffering with serpigo, and boasted of it.

In Litten's case a the clitoris was 3 1/2 inches long, and there was hydrocele of the processus vaginalis on both sides, making tumors in the labium on one side and the inguinal canal on the other, which had been diagnosed as testicles and again as ovaries. There was associate cystic ovarian disease. Plate 4 is taken from a case of false external bilateral hermaphroditism.

This treatment alone has often removed the disagreeable swellings on the neck so often afflicting women. This alone we have known remove tumours, so it is important. The three forms of treatment, all applied carefully, will cure all but very obstinate cases. See also Armpit Swelling; Hydrocele.

During the intervals of pouring a large cold compress should be worn, first well oiling the knee. Cover the compress with oiled silk. This will soften even a very stiff knee, so as at least to bring about ability to bend without pain. Of course, if there is any disjointing, good surgical aid must be had, if possible, to replace the bones in their natural position. Hydrocele. See Dropsy. Hysteria.

Accordingly hernia, with Gilbert, includes not only scrotal hernia, but also hydrocele, orchitis, tumors of the testicles, etc. This is apparent, too, in his treatment of hernia, which consists usually in the employment of various poultices and ointments, bleeding from the saphena, cups over the kidneys, etc., though hydrocele is tapped and a seton inserted.

There is an old record of an aged man who, on marrying, found that he had erections but no ejaculations. He died of ague, and at the autopsy it was found that the verumontanum was hard and of the size of a walnut and that the ejaculatory ducts contained calculi about the size and shape of peas. Hydrocele is a condition in which there is an abnormal quantity of fluid in the tunica vaginalis.

For a number of years I was a martyr to Sciatica and Muscular Rheumatism. I used every Patent Medicine I could hear of, besides Osteopathy and Chiropractic, and innumerable prescriptions from physicians, and received no benefit at all. The sciatic trouble was bad enough, but to this you must add loss of memory, hydrocele, kidney trouble, constipation, no appetite, and insomnia.

The peritoneum of hydrocele and hernial sacs and of the omentum readily lends itself to transplantation.

Do not the dropsies of the thorax and pericardium frequently exist together, and thus add to the uncertainty and fatality of the disease? Might not the foxglove be serviceable in hydrocephalus internus, in hydrocele, and in white swellings of the joints? VI. Of cold Sweats. There have been histories given of chronical immoderate sweatings, which bear some analogy to the diabetes. Dr.
