The ground on which the battle was fought is said to have been the favorite hunting ground of Daniel Boone, the pioneer of Kentucky. It was rather a romantic place for a battle. We remained at Camp Wild Cat until Thursday, Oct. 24th, and then took up our line of march on the track of the fleeing Rebels.

The provisions of this act, however, found little favor with the Lords of Trade, by whom it was considered "an improper and unreasonable restraint upon trade." Their objection found expression in the proclamation of George III., at the Court of St. James, Oct. 7, 1763:

Following a hollow, in which the fall of the country was indicated by the grass bent by the run of water after heavy showers of rain, we came to fine water-holes, about five miles from our last camp. His Journal at that period contains two entries, however, which show that neither Lady Fitz Rewes nor Reckage were wrong in fearing he had received a mortal blow which no earthly influence could make endurable. Oct., 1869. I am once more at Almouth House. Beauclerk's consideration for me is almost more than I can bear. The rest is not borne.
