The principal friends of the new movement were R. Newsham, the late J. Bairstow, J. Horrocks, and T. Miller, Esqrs., and what they subscribed constituted a substantial nucleus guaranteeing the commencement of operations.

About five years since, two class- rooms were attached to it, at the expense of J. Bairstow, J. Horrocks, R. Newsham, and T. Miller, Esqrs. The other school, set apart for the girls, was erected after that built by Captain German. Both of the schools are very good ones are large, lofty, and commodious. That used for the boys is, scholastically, in a superior condition.

"Another day we'll see Newsham Park, and the country around Knotty Ash way. Then again, there is some beautiful country up the Mersey and across to Birkenhead." The visitor was grateful for these offers. That evening Chester addressed some post-cards to his few friends in Chicago, one to Hugh Elston, one to Elder Malby in London, and one to Lucy May Strong, Kildare Villa, Cork, Ireland.

Newsham was concluding a sentence with these words: "If ever you leave Crown Anstey." I saw Coralie d'Aubergne look up at her with a quiet smile. "I shall never leave Crown Anstey," she said, "under any possible circumstances." Mrs. Newsham laughed. "You may be married, or Lady Trevelyan may not like the place and wish it closed a thousand things may happen to prevent you remaining here always."

At the bottom of Fishergate Hill, in Bird-street, there is a small, clean-looking, pleasantly-formed building which, since the 14th of October 1869, has been used as a chapel of ease for Christ church. It cost 1000 pounds, was built conjointly by Mr. R. Newsham, Mr. J. F. Higgins, and Mr.

This was also presented by R. Newsham, Esq., in memory of the late J. Bairstow, Esq. The church consists of a nave and a northern aisle. If an aisle could be constructed on the southern side the building would assume proportions at once most complete and imposing. But space will not permit of this.

So Miss Dulane opened the interview. "Your tone and manner, my good friend, are no doubt provoked by the report in the newspaper of this morning. In justice to you, I refuse to believe the report." So Mrs. Newsham adopted her friend's suggestion. "You kindness is thrown away, Elizabeth. The report is true." "Matilda, you shock me!" "Why?" "At your age!"

Who ever heard of profaning a contract?" "Call it what you please, Matilda. Do you expect to live a happy life, at your age, with a young man for your husband?" "A happy life," Miss Dulane repeated, "because it will be an innocent life." She laid a certain emphasis on the last word but one. Mrs. Newsham resented the emphasis, and rose to go.

In 1866, the old edifice was pulled down to make way for a new church, and during the work of re-construction divine service was performed in Vauxhall-road schools, which were, sometime after Mr. Thompson's appointment, transferred by the Rev. Canon Parr from the Parish Church's to St. Saviour's district. R. Newsham, Esq., laid the corner-stone of St.

Owing to the vastness of the district it is contemplated to erect as early as possible a school chapel as an auxiliary of the church. It will be built near the railway bridge in St. Paul's-road. R. Newsham, Esq., has offered to give a handsome sum towards the edifice, which is much needed.
