Such was the history of nearly all 'radicalism' and 'democracy' from the days of Cleon and Alcibiades down to the present time. But the enormous developments of science and of industry have of late years opened newer and broader views to the world. As capital has progressed in its action it is seen that at every step labor is becoming slowly, but surely, as Heaven's law identified with it.
The Natural History Museum at South Kensington is a large building, and it is newer than the British Museum and not so gloomy. And if there is to be real progress among us in this present generation, the growth of a political and national spirit, that sturdy insistence on better things on which our pioneer forefathers founded this nation, it is likely to come, as a beginning, from these newer parts of our country. These people have built for themselves. What we in the East have inherited, they have made.
