This had proceeded so far that it was reacting unfavorably upon commerce, and when foreign traders began to avoid entirely that part of the colony, the people of Accomack in alarm drew up a paper of grievances which they intended to present to the House of Burgesses.

Finally, in 1666, this project was abandoned for reasons that remain obscure. Most probably the quality of the product was inferior. The salt shortage continued despite other random attempts to alleviate it.
