In his later period, he devoted himself to Flemish literature with marked success as an authority. Luc Van Valckenborgh, called "partisan of the Reform," was born in 1566, and in his student days went to Germany, where he practised his art as a portrait painter. His reputation was made by his portrait of the Archduke Matthias.
