Therefore Scripture calls Christ properly a precious corner stone which imparts its virtue to all who through faith are built upon it. So, also, St. Peter teaches us in this passage how Christ is the living stone what Christ is; and the figure is a fine one, since it is easy to understand by it how we are to believe on Christ. It follows, now, further: V. 6-10.

38, 39: omitted according to Hahn; retained according to Hilgenfeld and Volkmar. vii. 29-35: omitted, Hahn and Ritschl; retained, Hilgenfeld and Volkmar. x. 12-15: ditto ditto. xiii. 6-10: omitted, Volkmar; retained, Hilgenfeld and Rettig. xvii. 5-10: omitted, Ritschl; retained, Volkmar and Hilgenfeld. 14-19: doubt as to exact omissions.

My first text after I got light on the one body of Christ, was Jeremiah 1:6-10 and 17-19. A short time before this I had held a meeting with an M. E. South preacher, who now seemed to stand before me like an obstructing mountain. As I began my sermon, I seemed to see him in that capacity.

The Spaniards have sunk one transport and two or three gunboats in the Pasig River. There remain thirteen or fourteen gunboats, which are scattered among the islands. They are of iron, from 140 to 200 tons each, are armed with one breech-loading rifle, caliber 3 6-10 inches, and two to four machine guns, each caliber 44-100 to 1 inch.

It was 6-10 when I was awakened by a sharp click. I opened my eyes stupidly and looked all round the room. There was absolutely nothing to be seen there. Then with a strong presentiment I jumped up and tried to open the door. It was as I suspected. I was locked in. My hand went to my hip pocket and found my revolver all right. They had not ventured to try and get at that.

John deals with these two consequences in verses 6-10 the former in verses 6 and 7; the latter in verses 8-10. The parallelism in the construction of these two sets of verses is striking: VERSES 6, 7. If we say If we say that we have fellowship with that we have no sin Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth. we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

In verses 6-10 the old king tells of the divine prohibition which checked his longing to build the Temple; in verses 11-13 he encourages his more fortunate successor, and points him to the only source of strength for his happy task; in verses 14-16 he enumerates the preparations which he had made, the possession of which laid stringent obligations on Solomon.

It must have been sheer withholding the necessaries of life. We see that the Charlestown food allowance per day, for those years respectively, was, 18, 18 6-10 and 18 7-10, increasing a trifle. Nor does any great extravagance appear in that first year with us, nineteen cents, one cent lower than authors say should be, though one higher than Massachusetts.

And hereupon it is that God so oft condemns the not removing and demolishing of the high places and monuments of idolatry, 1 Kings xv. 14, with 2 Chron. xv. 17; 1 Kings xxii. 44; 2 Kings xii. 3: and highly commends the contrary in Asa, 2 Chron. xv. 8, 16: in Jehoshaphat, 2 Chron. xvii. 3, 4, 6-10: in Hezekiah, 2 Chron. xxxi. 1; 2 Kings xviii. 4: in Manasseh, 2 Chron. xxxiii. 15: in Josiah, 2 Kings xxiii. 8, 13, 19, 20, 24: whereupon the Holy Ghost gives him that superlative commendation above all kings before and after him, ver. 25.
