If Lamarck might write the "Philosophie Zoologique" without, so far as I remember, one word of reference to Buffon, and without being complained of, why might not Mr. Darwin write the "Origin of Species" without more than a passing allusion to Lamarck? Mr.

And when it is said of his book, that he deposited it in the temple of Artemis, this only means that initiates alone could understand him. In fact, the publication of that theorem by Darwin and Wallace, in 1859, took all the biological world by surprise.
