In Sumer she was known as "the Mother of the Gods", and she was credited with the power of transferring the kingdom and royal insignia from one king to his successor. See especially, Poebel, op. cit., pp. 24 ff.

Compare the classical passage in the Large Catechism : "nicht Gemenschaft, sondern Gemeine." See A Discussion of Confession, above, p. 88. Changed to "Christian" in the Catechisms , although the Latin translations retain catholocism. The Apostle does not say, "one cup." The translation here follows the reading of the Jena Ed. Edd. Thus the Vulgate. See pp. 137 ff. Vulgate.

See the last chapter of F. C. Burkitt's The Gospel History and its Transmission. This chapter is a most clear-sighted analysis of one of the essentials of Catholic truth as opposed to error, and I venture to say this because its importance seems in general to be overlooked. See Prolegomena to Acts, pp. 332 ff. From which indeed Plato had probably obtained it.

Deut. 5, 6 ff. No conscience can for a moment be at rest when the Law and Moses assails the heart, before it apprehends Christ by faith.

The breadth of the tablet is 5 5/8 in., and it originally measured about 7 in. in length from top to bottom; but only about one-third of its inscribed surface is preserved. Cf. Poebel, Hist. Texts, pp. 66 ff. No. 5.
