The history of the discovery of radio-conductors is short, but it deserves, from its importance, a chapter to itself in the history of wireless telegraphy. From a theoretical point of view, the phenomena produced in those tubes should be set by the side of those studied by Graham Bell, C.A. Brown, and Summer Tainter, from the year 1878 onward.

A torpedo-boat built on this system may consist essentially of a series of steel tubes of large section grouped longitudinally, and divided into compartments like those of a bamboo cane. Each of these has its own small but powerful boilers and engines, and each its separate propeller at the stern. Care also is taken to place the machinery of each tube in such a position that no two are abreast.

He paused, then added politely, "If you don’t mind looking at your face, sirto see how clean the tubes are, I mean." Rip turned and got out of there. Koa was waiting in the passageway outside. Rip told him what had happened, mimicking O’Brine’s Irish accent. The sergeant-major shook his head sadly. "This is what I meant, Lieutenant.

Mail was handled by postal experts from home in such manner as sent millions of letters by the straightest course to every point in the United States, from the great cities down to the smallest hamlet. American soldiers in the fighting lines were furnished with tubes of medicinal paste to cure mustard gas burns.

Repeat the experiment until the action of the valve is understood. Sketch the artery, showing the valve in a closed condition. *To illustrate the Action of a Ventricle.*—Procure a syringe bulb with an opening at each end. Connect a rubber tube with each opening, letting the tubes reach into two tumblers containing water.

Silently Brandon put on his diving armor. The ropes and tubes were all carefully arranged. The usual weight was attached to his belt, and he was slowly lowered down to the bottom of the sea. The bottom of the ocean was composed of a smooth, even surface of fine sand and gravel, along which Brandon moved without difficulty.

In this opinion I fully concur, for I think with him that gold and silver tubes will not so readily "contract any impure or poisonous matter." But there is another and a stronger reason why I prefer silver, and especially GOLD inhaling tubes, to those made of wood or India-rubber. They would be more highly prized and MORE FREQUENTLY USED. S. S. Fitch, M.D., author of "Consumption Cured."

For convenience sake we had best put six tubes inside the cylinder, so that we can take one out every day for a week and examine the contents on the field of a microscope. It will be necessary to be very particular as to the temperature to which the tubes are exposed, and the rates of evaporation beneath the cylinder.

It was a bold idea, and many predicted its failure, but Captain Eads, the great engineer, had the courage of his convictions and carried out his plans successfully. From each tower a steel arch was started on each side, built of steel tubes braced securely; the building on each side of every tower was carried on simultaneously, one side of every arch balancing the weight on the other side.

A "dumb waiter," or vertical railway, communicates with the press room; and speaking tubes, and a smaller "railway," afford the means of conversation and transmitting small parcels between this room and the various parts of the building. Five hundred men are employed in the various departments of the paper.
