American syndicalism is not a scheming group dominated by an unconventional and destructive social philosophy. It is merely a commonplace attitude not such a state of mind as Machiavelli or Robespierre possessed, but one stamped by the lowest, most miserable labor-conditions and outlook which American industrialism produces.

It shares this with syndicalism, from which most of what is new in it is derived. But I see no reason for this attitude; political and economic action seem to me equally necessary, each in its own time and place. I think there is danger in the attempt to use the machinery of the present capitalist state for socialistic purposes.

The former pursues the integral emancipation of the individual; the latter the integral emancipation of the workingman. I find the whole of syndicalism in anarchism." When we leave the theories of syndicalism to study its methods, we find them identical with those of the anarchists.

'If syndicalism triumphs, says its chief prophet Sorel, 'the parliamentary régime, so dear to the intellectuals, will be at an end. 'The syndicalist has a contempt for the vulgar idea of democracy; the vast unconscious mass is not to be taken into account when the minority wishes to act so as to benefit it. 'The effect of political majorities, says Mr.

A desire for self-justification impelled her to exclaim: "You don't believe in Syndicalism and yet you've come here to feed these children!" "Oh, I think I understand the strike," he said. "How? Have you seen it? Have you heard the arguments?" "No. I've seen you. You've explained it." "To Mrs. Brocklehurst?"

The `good' soldier never tries to distinguish right from wrong, he never thinks, he never reasons, he only obeys " "But," Janet was tempted to say, "your syndicalism declares that none of us should think or reason. We should only feel." She was beginning to detect Rolfe's inconsistencies, yet she refrained from interrupting the inspirational flow.
