It deals with facts concerning that inner nature, the existence of which has been the subject of speculation, dispute, and even of denial, amongst philosophers in all ages; and in particular, with certain manifestations of that inner nature which have been observed in persons of peculiar organizations, now called Mediums or Sensitives, and in ancient times Prophets, Priests, and Seers.
The proportion of people who have the 'power' to mesmerize, if it be a power, I do not know. Mesmerism is a trance and seems to me almost identical with somnambulism. It is as harmless as sleep.
