An unreality there, as the zed-ray faintly strove to penetrate the metal room side. I said, "Shall I make the exposure?" Snap nodded. But that 'graph was never made. An exclamation from Moa made us all turn. The gamma mirrors were quivering! Grantline had picked our signals!

Thus, "id:GAMMA gamma" might very well refer to a Phoenician construct that in appearance resembles the form that eventually stabilized as an uppercase Greek "gamma" juxtaposed to another one of lowercase. Also, a construct such as "id:E" indicates a symbol that in graphic form most closely resembles an ASCII uppercase "E", but, in fact, is actually drawn more crudely.

I engaged two wild young Arabs of eighteen and twenty years of age, named Bacheet and Wat Gamma: the latter being interpreted signifies "Son of the Moon." This in no way suggests lunacy, but the young Arab had happened to enter this world on the day of the new moon, which was considered to be a particularly fortunate and brilliant omen at his birth.

The gamma, Γ, or Greek letter G, is said to have been sacred among the Pythagoreans as the initial of Γεωμειρία or Geometry. Vide Oliver, Hist. Init. p. 68, note.

The magnitudes are five and seven, distance 6.7", p. 348°. The star gamma, of magnitude two and a half, has a tenth-magnitude companion, distant 51", p. 238°. Sigma 516, also called 39 Eridani, consists of two stars of magnitudes six and nine, distance 6.4", p. 150°; colors, yellow and blue. The supposed binary character of this star has not yet been established.

In 1900 the distance had increased to 0.4", p. 115°. The brilliance of color contrast between the two larger stars of gamma Andromedæ is hardly inferior to that exhibited in beta Cygni, so that this star may be regarded as one of the most picturesque of stellar objects for small telescopes.

The third-magnitude star eta has a companion of magnitude ten and a half, distance 90", p. 340°. The star beta, of the second magnitude, and reddish, is variable to the extent of half a magnitude in an irregular period, and gamma, of magnitude two and a half, has an eleventh-magnitude companion, distance 162", p. 285°.

The magnitudes of the components of gamma are four and four and a half, or, according to Hall, both four; distance 8.5", p. 180°. A few degrees above gamma, passing by beta, is a wide double lambda, magnitudes five and eight, distance 37", p. 45°, colors white and lilac or violet.

Under the guidance of map No. 6 we turn to Leo, which contains one of the leading gems among the double stars, gamma, whose components, of the second and fourth magnitudes, are respectively yellow and green, the green star, according to some observers, having a peculiar tinge of red.

"Is there anything we can do, sir?" Koa asked. Rip shook his head inside the transparent bubble. "If you have a good luck charm in your pocket, you might talk to it. That's about all." Nuclear physics had been part of his training. He read the gamma meter again and did some quick calculations. They would be exposed for the entire trip, at a daily dosage of Koa interrupted his train of thought.
