If we have an etheric body, this is doubtless more or less detachable, at times indeed, the ingenious author of The Maniac suggests that the premature loosening of this body is the cause of much insanity. If this were true, we should have a ready explanation for these cases of exteriorized sensibility. But it would not even be necessary for us to assume this!
And if a motor current can exist and travel in this manner, why not a sensory current? It would only have to travel in the opposite direction. For these reasons, therefore, I am disposed to regard the phenomena of exteriorized sensibility as highly probable, if not actually proved.
So there are types of men to whom the outer world, whether it is in its "other people," or its things, or its facts, or its attractions and repulsions, is the chief source of interest and these are the objective types, exteriorized folks, whose values lie in the goods they can accumulate, or the people they can help, or the external power they exercise, or the knowledge they possess of the phenomena of the world, or the things they can do with their hands.
