The week of September 5-12, 1914, witnessed the entire series of the battles of the Marne, which drove the Germans across the Marne and across the Aisne, as well as a German victory which exerted almost as powerful an influence in favor of the invaders as the check at the Marne did for the defenders. This victory was the fall of Maubeuge.

For example, xiv. is practically identical with liii., except that in the first Jehovah is always used as the designation of the Deity, and in liii. Elohim or God; again Psalm xl. 13-17 is reproduced in lxx.; lvii. 7-11 and lx. 5-12 are together practically equivalent to cviii.

And when his acquiescence in the will of God had become thus complete he instinctively felt that he would speedily be restored to health. * Psalm lxiii. 4, 8, 11. Subsequently, in reading Proverbs iii. 5-12, he was struck with the words, "Neither be weary of His correction."

The evidence of the text does not appear to me to support the view that any reference to a watery chaos preceding Creation must necessarily be of Semitic origin. Roy. Asiat. Soc., Vol. Tabl., Vol. I, p. 130. Obv., ll. 5-12. Sum. nigin-kur-kur-ra-ge, Sem. nap-har ma-ta-a-tu, lit. "all lands", i.e. Sumerian and Babylonian expressions for "the world".

Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place. 1 SAMUEL xxvi 5-12; 21-25. It is fashionable at present to regard this incident and the other instance of David's sparing Saul, when in his power, as two versions of one event.

I have translated some appropriate Psalms, but the 2nd and 57th they hardly know as yet quite well; so our service will be Psalms 96, 97, 114; 1st lesson 2 Kings, v. 9 15, Magnificat; 2nd lesson Acts viii. 5-12, and the Baptismal Service. Henry Tagalana reads the first, and George Sarawia the second lesson. Then will come my quiet evening, as, I trust, a close of an eventful day.

In view of the fact that Protopopov has since become insane, one wonders whether the man was mentally well balanced at the time that he was in office. But the Tsar has only himself to blame for his plight; he was warned against this nominee of Rasputin, but he would not take advice. Early in the week of March 5-12, 1917, the trouble began in the factory districts.

I have had horse exercise for the last three days, but the horse is now ill. "Mine hour is not yet come," is the Lord’s voice to me in this little circumstance. Feb. 11. This morning I was directed to read Proverbs iii. 5-12, having just a few minutes to fill up before breakfast. I was particularly struck with those words: "Neither be weary of His correction."

I read Isa. xlii. 5-12 for the First Lesson, and 1 Tim. iii. 8-13 for the Second, and the Collect in the Ordination Service before the Prayer of St. Chrysostom. Mr. Codrington, as usual, read the prayers to the end of the third Collect, after which we sang our Sunday hymn. 'At 11 A.M. we began the Ordination Service. One Epiphany hymn, my short sermon, then Mr.
