A thorough knowledge of the world within us, as it stands related to the world without us, is something quite different from mere book-knowledge. This is an element of influence not only not confined to the bookmen, but often possessed in a transcendent degree by those whose devotion to books is altogether subordinate to other avocations.

Without, beyond the glaring white-washed laboratory, was a February world, equally white, of zero ice and snow. Through the spectroscope she saw a world in flames blood-red. It was not more flaming than her thoughts. Her father's transcendent invention just a faddist's dream! The Thunder Bird a joke a Quaker Gun! "Bah!"

But if a holy life before such manifestations were made to her, and a still holier life after them if that is any test of the truth and reality of such transcendent and supernatural matters, on her own humble and adoring testimony, and on the now extorted and now spontaneous testimony of absolutely all who lived near her, still more humility, meekness, lowly- mindedness, heavenly-mindedness and prayerfulness demonstrably followed those inward and spiritual revelations to her of her Lord.

Cause and effect then mean nothing in the sequence of natural phenomena beyond what I have said; and the real cause, or the transcendent cause, as some would call it, of each successive phenomenon is in that which is the cause of all things which are, which have been, and which will be forever.

From time immemorial Thou hast been potent to do what pleaseth Thee and transcendent above whatsoever Thou desirest. “Vouchsafe unto me, O my God, the full measure of ...” Vouchsafe unto me, O my God, the full measure of Thy love and Thy good-pleasure, and through the attractions of Thy resplendent light enrapture our hearts, O Thou Who art the Supreme Evidence and the All-Glorified.

Glorified be Thy name, Thou in Whose hand are the kingdoms of earth and heaven. O Thou Who art the Ruler of earth and heaven and the Author of all names!

Tuesday forenoon, 25th October, 1740, Express arrives at Reinsberg; direct from Vienna five days ago; finds Friedrich under eclipse, hidden in the interior, laboring under his ague-fit: question rises, Shall the Express be introduced, or be held back? The news he brings is huge, unexpected, transcendent, and may agitate the sick King.

Thou hast asked concerning the fundamentals of religion and its ordinances: Know thou that first and foremost in religion is the knowledge of God. This attaineth its consummation in the recognition of His divine unity, which in turn reacheth its fulfilment in acclaiming that His hallowed and exalted Sanctuary, the Seat of His transcendent majesty, is sanctified from all attributes.

What a fitting mate she was for that young lion, Joe Newbolt, thought the judge; such a mate, indeed, as he would have chosen for his own son if God had seen fit to give him that transcendent joy. Judge Maxwell found himself greatly concerned about Joe Newbolt's future.
