Every consumptive cured in it goes home to be a living example and an enthusiastic missionary in the fresh-air campaign. The ultimate aim of the sanatorium will be to turn every farmhouse, every village, every city, into an open-air resort. When it shall have done this it will have fulfilled its mission. Our plan of campaign is growing broader and more ambitious, but more hopeful, every day.

She was so glad that, as she walked away, scarcely heeding her steps or conscious of the chaffing, chattering crowd, all interest in her work and in that quarter of the city seemed dead. It is well that there is pleasure somewhere in the world. It is possible for those who have a fresh-air fund of their own to steam away in a yacht, out of the midsummer ennui and the weary gayety of the land.

Some charities and some clubs and schools were temporarily suspended; other charities, befitting the name, were more active, the very young children were most looked after, and the Good Samaritans of the Fresh-Air Funds went about everywhere full of this new enthusiasm of humanity.

Many states are making an organized effort to fight tuberculosis by establishing fresh-air colonies where, with pure air, rest and plenty of the most nourishing food, patients are restored to health. Care of epileptics and the insane by the state, with proper hygiene and treatment, accomplishes many cures.

Nan received a sewing machine, to remind her of the fresh-air work. Of course Tom Mason got a horse a donkey it really was; and Jack Hopkins' gift was a wheelbarrow. Harry pulled out a boat, and Bert got a cider barrel. They were all souvenirs, full of candy, favors for the party, and they caused no end of fun. Freddie was the last to pull and he got A bunch of real radishes from his own garden!

I don't think he ever saw that much money in one group before in his life. The clerk of the court grabbed the fresh-air fund and did a rubber into the family safe for the change. All quiet along the Potomac. The whole blooming city didn't have change for a century note. Can you beat that? And they say there is no graft in Kansas. They had to go over to the speakeasy for a change.

"We can't put the snakes in with the others or they'll eat them up," said Jack. "I'll get a big glass jar for the snakes." "And say!" said Harry. "Will we charge admission to the show?" "Sure five cents each," said Tom, "and give the money to the fresh-air camp over on the mountain." This was considered a good plan, and now it was only a few days more until Wednesday the day of the circus!

"You ought to be out in the open air this lovely morning," he said feebly. "All right. Let's go for a walk. I will if you will." "I I have other things to do," said Mr. Pett, recoiling from the prospect. "Well, this fresh-air stuff is overrated anyway. Where's the sense of having a home if you don't stop in it?"

"Now tell me," said Marjorie Schuyler, "where have you been all these weeks?" Patsy considered. "Well I've been taking up hospital training." "Oh, how splendid! Are you going over with the new Red Cross supply?" Patsy shook her head. "You see, they only kept me until they had demonstrated all they knew about lung disorders and fresh-air treatment, and then they dismissed me.

"No; I shall calm down in time; but I never get used to having you so far away. It never seems quite right, when the rest of us are all here together." "I am a little terrified at the prospect of the coming week," Hope said, as she sat down on the couch and looked across the lawn to where Mac was playing. "What now?" "Babe is to have her fresh-air child." "Hope! You don't mean it?"
