In the second edition the Analytic of Principles contains as a supplement a "Refutation of Idealism," which, in opposition to Descartes's position that the only immediate experience is inner experience, from which we reach outer experience by inference alone, argues that, conversely, it is only through outer experience, which is immediate experience proper, that inner experience as the consciousness of my own existence in time is possible.

Both are analytic languages, each totally different from the highly-wrought, inflective language of India. Cambodgian is isolating, but, unlike Chinese, it contains many polysyllabic words whose etymological analysis does not matter. Like English, therefore, in its relation to French and Latin, it welcomed immense numbers of Sanskrit loan-words, many of which are in common use to-day.

'And I But the chair having been placed behind him, and a smart touch in the hollow of a person's knee by the edge of that piece of furniture having a tendency to make the person sit without further argument, Bob sank down dumb, and the others drew up other chairs at a convenient nearness for easy analytic vision and the subtler forms of good fellowship.

It should include technical training which affords facility to express whatever a person may have for expression; intellectual training which enables a person to grasp the constructive laws of the art, its scope, history and æsthetics, with all that calls into play the analytic and imaginative faculties; and spiritual development which imparts warmth and glow to everything.

Still more wonderful is the fact that the larger complex organisms actually begin existence as single cells. In three ways, therefore, the analytic, the comparative, and the developmental, the cell proves to be the "organic individual of the first order." Thought is the act of referring a given intuition to an object.

We are unable to put ourselves in the child's place, we fail to enter into his thoughts, we invest him with our own ideas, and while we are following our own chain of reasoning, we merely fill his head with errors and absurdities. Should the method of studying science be analytic or synthetic? People dispute over this question, but it is not always necessary to choose between them.

Its subtlety, its flexibility, its capacity for analytic research, its variety of range, and facility for reaching all hearts and all minds all this is simply incalculable. And we may be sure that the star of romance has not yet reached its zenith. It is the art of the future and an art wherein women are quite as likely to reign as men.

In order to a determinate filling of space the co-operation of both fundamental forces is required. The outcome of the Analytic of Principles sounds bold enough.

Perhaps if I had had the experience and ability to contribute the results of some original analytic investigation on specific lines, I should not then have ventured into the philosophic field.
