His complete works were pub. in 5 vols. in 1744. Novelist, was a clergyman. He wrote under the name of "Cuthbert Bede" a few novels and tales, Fairy Fables , Glencraggan , Fotheringhay , etc.; but his most popular book was Verdant Green, an Oxford Freshman, which had great vogue.

Adolphus Trollope, there was much that Mr. Cheney dissented from, and he wrote a long letter on the subject, which Reeve in due course forwarded to Trollope.
