Before I leave the subject of my wife's family and friends and of the warm-hearted kindness with which they received me, I ought to say something about my father-in-law, Mr. Simpson. Though he had not his wife's charm of manner and delight in all the amenities of life and of social intercourse on its best side, he was to me a very attractive man, as well as one of very great ability.

A maid, in the absence of the footman, brought in the name of Senator Simpson. "Just the man," said Mollenhauer. "Show him up. You can see what he thinks." "Perhaps I had better leave you alone now," suggested Owen to his father. "Perhaps I can find Miss Caroline, and she will sing for me. I'll wait for you, father," he added.

"Harry told me," she said, "and I think Jack Simpson told him as the schoolmaster said so." The news was too important to be kept to themselves, and there was soon a general move homewards. There Sally Shepherd's story received confirmation.

One or two more speeches of this kind convinced him that it would be wise in him to take her at her word. He went back to Simpson, and found him, though still alive, past the understanding of any words of human forgiveness. Philip had almost wished he had not troubled or irritated Sylvia by urging the dying man's request: the performance of this duty seemed now to have been such a useless office.

"She'll ride with the rag-sack-and-bottle peddler just as quick as she would with the minister; she always sets beside the St. Vitus' dance young one at Sabbath school; and she's forever riggin' and onriggin' that dirty Simpson baby! She reminds me of a puppy that'll always go to everybody that'll have him!" It was thought very creditable to Mrs.

Andrew Simpson, a man possessed of the piety and boldness of an apostle, was then minister of Dunbar; and, as he went forth to the kirk to preach to his people, he beheld the unhallowed preparations of the fishermen on the beach; and he turned and went amongst them, and reproved them sternly for their great wickedness.

"It is walled up," says Simpson, "with alternate beds of large and small stones, the regularity of the combination producing a very pleasant effect.

"Got a job for me, skipper?" asked Doc Simpson, Swift Enterprises' young medic. "Yes. Help the boys, if you like, rig the undersea elevator, and then assemble a tractorized air dome," Tom suggested. "Will do," Doc promised. A ladder was dropped. Tom and Bud excitedly descended to the Sea Hound. The search for the lost missile was about to begin!

"Let me be a little sunbeam for Jesus " and she seemed, then, to feel a subtle sort of glow, as from an actual sunbeam, warming her whole being. But the marvellous new feeling did not definitely begin till after Sunday-school was over, when she was helping Miss Simpson collect the song-books.

He ate it all at a meal, washing it down with a gallon of tea, and then complained that he had not had enough. Sir George Simpson states that at Athabasca Lake, in 1820, he was one of a party of twelve who ate twenty-two geese and three ducks at a single meal. But, as he says, they had been three whole days without food.
