The Stockholm Technical School, which is the most complete, comprises five branches: mechanical technology and machinery, shipbuilding and electrotechnics; chemical technology; mineralogy, metallurgy, and mining mechanics; architecture; engineering. The course in each of these sections takes between three and four years. Generally several are combined, constituting a course of six or seven years.
It is also remarkable that at the time of the Union the population of Belfast was 35,000, and Dublin 250,000. Now Belfast is 335,000, while Dublin remains at a quarter of a million. The effect of that embargo was to shut down between 70 and 80 per cent. of the shipbuilding works of the country, and to menace with extinction an industry which was bringing in immense profits.
