A similar vessel, frequently handleless, was what was spelt, in various colonial documents, posned, possnet, posnett, porsnet, pocneit, posnert, possenette, postnett, and parsnett. In 1653 Governor Haynes, of Hartford, left an "Iron Posnet" by will.
