The story of mission work in Arabia is not very long, but it is full of interest. From the day when Mohammed proclaimed himself an apostle in Mecca until about sixteen years ago when Ion Keith Falconer came to Aden as a missionary, all of Topsy-turvy Land lay in darkness as regards the gospel. For thirteen hundred years Mohammed had it all his own way in Arabia.

"I hope there is nothing serious ailing dear mamma," Violet said rather anxiously to herself, as the carriage rolled swiftly on toward Ion; "there was really nothing in her note to indicate it, but she has never been one to complain of even a pretty serious ailment. She is not old yet; we may hope to keep her with us for many, many years. But then she is so good so ripe for heaven!"

"I intend you shall go to Ion to the Christmas-eve party, and the dinner-party the next day, as I shall be there too." "Thank you, dear papa: I'd like to go ever so much, but I don't deserve to," she said humbly, "or to have any Christmas gifts. If I were you, and had such a bad child, I wouldn't give her a single thing."

"You will enjoy the same religious advantages at Ion, and, my boy, try to profit by them, remembering that we shall have to render an account at last of the use or abuse of all our privileges. I want you to promise me that you will read a few verses of the Bible every day, and commit at least one to memory." "I will, papa. And what else shall I read?

"I want to show Lulu and Max the beauties of Ion, and don't know how to wait till to-morrow," she said. "Then take them about from one room to another, and let them look out through the windows upon its moonlit lawn, alleys, gardens and lakelet." "Oh, yes, yes! that will do!" she cried, leaving his knee in haste to carry out his suggestion.

Thus the hypothesis will be removed from all discussion of a chemical order, since it will have been made plastic enough beforehand to adapt itself to all the known facts; and if we object that sodium cannot subsist in water because it instantaneously decomposes the latter, the answer is simply that the sodium ion does not decompose water as does ordinary sodium.

This was their last halt on the journey home to Ion. " to the guiltless heart, where'er we roam, No scenes delight us like our much-loved home." Robert Hillhouse.

He wrote much for reviews, and in 1835 produced Ion, a tragedy, followed by The Athenian Captive , and The Massacre of Glencoe, all of which were acted with success. In 1837 he introduced the Copyright Bill, which was passed with modifications in 1842. Poet, b. in Paisley where he was a weaver.

The captain and Lulu spent a quiet half-hour with the Ion family and Violet, then departed for Woodburn. As the carriage started, the captain put an arm round Lulu, drew her close to him, and smiling affectionately down into her face, said: "How glad I am to be able to keep one of my loved flock with me!"

I can't have one minute of happiness till I have done so and got a kiss of forgiveness." Snatching a hat from the rack and putting it on as she went, she ran out and round the porches and the grounds; but nowhere was he to be seen. "Miss Lu," called a servant, at length, "is you lookin' fo' de cap'n? He's done gone to Ion, I 'spects; kase dere's whar Miss Wi'let went in de kerridge."
