It has respect to the best good of all, can suffer all, and take for the best whatever shall be imposed upon it. There follows, further: V. 9.
That may be an instance of the lenity of Christ's charity, which hopeth all things; or it may rather be intended to suggest the keenness of the king's glance, which, in all the crowded tables, picks out the one ragged losel who had found his way there so individual is his knowledge, so impossible for us to hide in the crowd. Mark that the feast has not begun, though the guests are seated.
What if a man has never so much gold or silver, or food, or raiment: yet if he has none to communicate, what is the distressed, or those in want, the better?
