"Quite a number of intelligent Natives are devoting themselves gratuitously to evangelistic work among their brethren, and with much success.
Towards the end of 1840 I went to Allahabad, seventy miles north-west of Benares, to take part in evangelistic work at a great mela held there annually, as I thought I might be able to render some help to my brethren. Allahabad, called Pryag by the Hindus, is at the confluence of the Ganges and the Jumna, and all such places are deemed sacred.

It is very difficult, rather impossible, to estimate the effect produced by evangelistic services on such occasions.
