Something certainly of the crystal's faculty for picking out particles akin to itself, and building with them, is shown by the kelp which attracts from the ocean both iodine and bromine often dissolved though they are in a million times their bulk of sea water.

The number who avail themselves of this privilege is not large, but it includes, on occasions, men of varied social status and of diverse races and colors none of whom, so far as I could ever discern, attracts the slightest attention. At the German meeting, again, absolute silence reigns. No one thinks of leaving during the session, and to make any sound above a sigh would seem almost a sacrilege.

Throughout the pages of this little book have been scattered crumbs of teaching other than those concerning the aura alone. Those for whom these are intended will recognize and appropriate them the others will not see them, and will pass them by. One attracts his own to him.

It is not a good table bird, the flesh being dark, tough, and of an earthy flavour far inferior to the generality of pigeons, and not to be compared with ground or aquatic game. The tyrannical fig-tree of the species referred to elsewhere, in full fruit pink in colouring until it attains purple ripeness attracts birds from all parts, and for nearly a quarter of the year is as gay as a theatre.

Whether he attracts one or not, a thimbleful of some of his work, a single part in one of his works, a little bit of the Fantastique or the overture of Benvenuto, reveal more genius I am not afraid to say it than all the French music of his century. I can understand people arguing about him in a country that produced Beethoven and Bach; but with us in France, who can we set up against him?

I must, besides, remind you that your proud spirit may deceive you when it suggests, that because your sadness or your ill-humour attracts no expressed notice or excites no efforts to remove it, it does not therefore affect those around you.

For instance, blue stars are never known to be solitary they always have a companion, but why this should be so passes our comprehension. What is it in the constitution of a blue star which holds or attracts another? Whatever it may be, it is established by repeated instances that blue stars do not stand alone.

What will become of these little bodies and so many other pitiful remnants of life? They will not long offend our sense of sight and smell. The sanitary officers of the fields are legion. An eager freebooter, ready for any task, the Ant is the first to come hastening and begin, particle by particle, to dissect the corpse. Soon the odour attracts the Fly, the genitrix of the odious maggot.

The reason is, that when we once charge a body by contact with either kind, it repels that kind, and attracts the opposite; if we charge it from the glass, i.e., with vitreous electricity, it refuses to have more, and is attracted to the sealing-wax; and if we charge it from the sealing-wax, i.e., with resinous electricity, it refuses to have more, and is attracted to the glass-rod; only it is to be observed that, till the body is charged by either, it has an equal attraction for both.

It is, however, pointed out to the malcontents that they live in a healthier place than Birmingham used to be, and, further, that the city, owing to its improved character and appearance, attracts more visitors, and this increases local trade. Of this latter fact there can be little dispute.
