On June 13, 1914, the progress of the Russian armies continued along the entire 250-mile front from the Pripet River to the Rumanian border. The capture of twenty officers, 6,000 men, six cannon, and ten machine guns brought the total, captured by the Russian troops, up to about 120,000 men, 1,720 officers, 130 cannon and 260 machine guns, besides immense quantities of material and munitions.

That exception is, however, no unimportant one. In our view, it is the crowning excellence of the first volume, its distinctive feature and principal attraction. We refer to the third chapter of the volume, from page 260 to page 398, the description of the condition of England at the period of the accession of James II. We know of nothing like it in the entire range of historical literature.

Just 'cause I had pushed that side box till it swung aside on hinges I didn't know about, and there, in a little secret nest, was a pile of those same crisp, crinkly paper things I'd been looking for. 20 40 60 110 160 210 260 310! Three hundred and ten dollars, Mag Monahan. Three hundred and ten, and Nance Olden! "Glory be!" I whispered. "Glory be damned!" I heard behind me. I turned.

The average daily attendance of boys is 200; that of the girls 260; that of the infants, 350. The boys seem well trained; the girls, who are in charge of nuns called "Companions of the Holy Child Jesus" are likewise industriously cared for; and the infants are a show in themselves.

De Candolle has well remarked in his great and admirable work, that floras gain by naturalisation, proportionally with the number of the native genera and species, far more in new genera than in new species. To give a single instance: in the last edition of Dr. Asa Gray's 'Manual of the Flora of the Northern United States, 260 naturalised plants are enumerated, and these belong to 162 genera.

He authorized them also to act as his ambassadors to the pope, and the kings of France and Spain, and all other Christian princes. The khan ordered fourteen ships to be prepared for the voyage, each having four masts, and carrying nine sails. Four or five of these were so large as to have from 250 to 260 mariners in each, but the rest were smaller.

Only 260 miles of unknown coast remained of the north-west passage, and they believed that the New Year would see them return home. The sun remained longer and longer above the horizon, and at last the long Polar day commenced. When the Erebus and Terror were released in late summer from their prison of ice, and the small island could at last be left, three sailors remained on the beach.

The people might have been willing on this occasion to distinguish between the king and his ministers: but care was taken to prove, that the latter had done nothing but what was agreeable to their master. Jefferies, on his return, was immediately, for those eminent services, created a peer; and was soon after vested with the dignity of chancellor. * Life of Lord Keeper North, p. 260.

Yet perhaps the earliest remnant of old Genoa is to be found in the Church of S. Sisto in the Via di Prè, standing as it does on the very stones of a church raised to the Pope and martyr of that name in 260. In the journey which Pope Sixtus made to Genoa he is said to have been accompanied by St.

The immediate crisis however proceeded not from those who felt the disabilities of their order, but from the distress of the farmers. The rectified annals place the political revolution in the year 244, the social in the years 259 and 260; they certainly appear to have followed close upon each other, but the interval was probably longer.
